7.1. Empirical Evidence for God

Now let's take a look at some more concrete and empirical evidence for the existence of God. Previously, we were able to confirm the existence of "God" through philosophical and scientific methods. However, if "God" does not "directly" show His existence and power to humans, we would only be able to verify the existence of God in a speculative and academic way.

But if God reveals His existence in a way that humans can directly experience and feel, then we can experience God's existence in a much more empirical and practical way. Through this process, we can be assured that the difficult process of philosophical reasoning examined earlier is not a "product of empty intellectual thought" but "empirical evidence." This serves as powerful additional evidence supporting the logical and scientific certainty of God's existence that we have already verified.

For example, no matter how much you confirm and understand a principle through complex physical and mathematical formulas, if you cannot directly experience and observe it through experiments, it is difficult to "really feel" it as a definite truth. However, once a theory is actually verified in this way, we can finally clearly accept that principle as truth.

Even if we reach the conclusion that "God" exists, there is still one very important question remaining: which god is the true God? The God I am claiming to you through these writings is the "God" testified in the Bible. So we will also need to address why only the God of Christianity is the true God and other gods are false gods.

First, let's think about how we can know which god is the true God. However, there is one presupposition here. That is, if that god does not show His existence and power in a form that humans can experience and observe, there is no objective way for us to verify which god is the true God. Because if God just stays still, there is no way for us to test it.

So, for a god to be the standard for verification, he must necessarily reveal his existence to humans, demonstrate his godly power in a way that humans can actually experience, and there must be objective evidence for it.

Shall we list the gods we generally know? The God of Christianity, Allah of Islam, Baphomet, Chemos, and Molech of the ancient Near East, Osiris of ancient Egypt...countless totem gods distributed in each country, nameless miscellaneous gods.

However, just because someone has the name "god" attached to them does not mean that just anyone meets the qualifications of the "God" who is the origin of all things that created the "entire universe" that we are trying to verify now. Because the absolute majority of gods are just "products of thought" and "fictitious objects" that humans have artificially created for their own needs.

For example, let's assume that someone imagined and created a god A for the purpose of abundance or fertility. Such a god has nothing to do with the God we are currently trying to verify. Strictly speaking, such a thing is not a "god." It's just a human creation.

When applying this standard, the absolute majority of "gods" are disqualified. To at least qualify to verify whether a "god" is real or not, there must be evidence that the "divine" being showed his existence and power in a way that humans can feel. This is the preliminary round. Among the countless "gods," the "God" who has the most systematic and vast amount of such verifiable evidence accumulated throughout human history is the "God" mentioned in the Bible.

First, the God mentioned in the Bible describes His existence like this:

  • He created the heavens, the earth, and the universe, and He is the beginning and the end
  • There are no other gods in the universe besides Himself. He is the one and only God
  • He is omniscient, omnipotent, and eternally unchanging.
  • He is a personal being, and He is a being overflowing with both righteousness and love.
  • He created humans in His own image.
  • He answers human prayers.
  • He Himself took on a human body and directly revealed His divinity to the human world (Jesus)
  • Because He is omniscient and omnipotent, He governs the laws of the universe and performs supernatural powers and miracles.
  • He is an intelligent, immaterial, spiritual, transcendent being.

7.2. How to Verify the God of the Bible

So how can we verify whether the God of the Bible is the true God? We can apply the verification methods we looked at earlier. If this hypothesis is true, then:

These contents must also be proven to be true. Therefore, it is necessary to collect various evidence to verify these facts. If the collected evidence and facts contradict or are inconsistent with the above contents, the hypothesis that "the God of the Bible is the true God" is rejected. Therefore, we could conclude that the Bible is a fabricated document and God does not exist.

However, if all evidence and logic in the verification process support the truthfulness of the Bible and the existence of God, we can conclude that the Bible is a historical document containing truth and that God actually exists.

Then shall we verify them one by one? Looking at the basis for the cosmological argument for God that we looked at earlier, we have already confirmed that there must be an absolute "being" who created the universe. And we can see that this being must transcend space and time. Also, considering the fine-tuning of the universe and the existence of moral laws, we were able to confirm that it is an intelligent, personal being with a clear concept of good and evil.

However, the attributes of the God of the Bible, which we have examined earlier, show that they perfectly match these facts that we can objectively confirm. Then, among these attributes of God, the following contents have not yet been resolved in our discussion:

"God created humans, answers human prayers, shows supernatural miracles and powers in human life, and directly revealed His existence to humans through Jesus."

So in order to verify these things, the following questions must be resolved:

  • Can "supernatural miracles" actually happen and is there evidence of that?
  • Is the Bible, which records God's supernatural powers and miracles done to humans, and abilities that are impossible without being God, really a trustworthy book, and is there such evidence?
  • Are the existence and resurrection of Jesus historical facts?
  • Is there evidence that God's power and miracles are actually manifested even now?

By objectively verifying these, we can determine whether the God of the Bible is fiction or truth. Let's proceed with a detailed verification of these in order.
